No when i acquired my munga it was badly butchered ,in place of the original engine there a 2.5l diesel with extended front and home made hard top.this is my second repower since purchase first I fitted a 784cc 3 cylinder diesel with turbo ,this gave good economy and around 98kph on the governor. I ran this for 5000km before been offered the nissan engine from a friend's car which had rusted out ,this set the current build off as been nearest to the dkw spec at 41kw @ 6000rpm.

I have been reading this thread with interests, this is my solution to the lack of suitable engines in the UK 1000 cc nissan micra 16v twin cam with all electronics removed and offset cooling fan to leave unmodified.

Removed the diesel engine from my munga to improve the manifold gas flow .then got a little carried away, with the result of now having a 1L nissan K11 engine in its place ,removed all electronics replaced by carbon and points distributor ,flywheel reduced in diameter then fitted with kubota ring gear +clutch adaptor

I do like the vw diesels but there are few of the early 1.6 engines around over here, and they tend to be very expensive .Thanks for the info will keep it in mind if project fails .

My Munga come to me with the front cut out to clear the 2.5 fourtrack engine fitted .The munga engines are very rare here in rebuildable condition ,My work as a plant fitter makes the small diesels easy to obtain here. This is my second build the first was a old 950 cc kubota ,this engine was my test bed for the project giving 80 km/hour on the governor in fourth gear over 100 km of testing .The new engine is a modern high power to weight unit with more room to tweak .Thanks for the data looks like I have the early box ,this engine safely run to 4200 rpm hope to have the cooling system refitted later this week ,then test run on trade plates.will post how it goes.

My question relates to the ratio of speed to engine RPM .Currently i am fitting a 3 cylinder diesel to my munga f91/4, to replace the 2.5 diesel fitted when bought .What RPM should the engine be running at 90 .Currently working on my MK2 build .A few pics of work so far ,MUNGA as bought .MK 1 worked ok but crank worn ,MK 2 work so far .
